The food service industry is becoming a hot topic to the general public.  Whether this is a good or bad thing is for the individual to decide but it’s happening regardless.  One example, the growing trend of reality TV shows centered around kitchens such as, “Hell’s Kitchen”, “the Next Food Network Star”, “Chopping Block”, and “Iron Chef”.  The second example is of popular movies about the food service industry.  “Ratatouille”, “Julia and Julia”, and “No Reservations”, are just a few of the movies that have come out or are coming out about the industry.  Another example of the food service industry becoming a hot topic to the general public is books being published by or about famous chefs.  Anthony Bourdain, Marco White, Julia Child, and Rick Balis are not only putting out cook books typically bought by home devoted followers or people in the industry but they are also putting out books about themselves and their experiences.  The food service industry is becoming commercialized.  For those of us in the industry or hoping to be this means that people are expecting a whole hell of a lot from us which is good but may also be bad.
