cold feet here in the 9th inning – Dan Picirillo

25 09 2008

as the end of our time here comes to a close. Sure enough I’m starting to hesitate.

-Did I make the right decision?

-Will I be able to live the life that I want to?

-How long is it going to take to pay off my student loans?

I think it’s easy to get intimidated by the end, with the world outside of school facing many of us we’re questioning ourselves.

I took some time to reflect if my goals are being met, if the life I dreamed of is still possible, and If I will be able to do it. We get fed alot of images and ideas here at school, and I think alot of them take away from our dreams, we start to lose sight of why we came here.

after reflecting I came to realize that it’s that reguardless of what they say, my particular dream was still very possible.

I think we should all, at least those that feel the way I do, take a moment to sit back and rediscover our dreams. Not only will it lift the intimidation of striking out finally, but will help you find the direction you want to go in from here.

I know this isnt specific to culinary, but it’s important nonetheless. For those of us that are just begining our first career, it’s important to know where you should go, or more importantly where you want to go.

I know some people might just move back home with the rents, and work some runt line cook position. Then their happiness starts to spiral down once paying off the loans sets in. I hope that people can find their way from here and dont end up floundering. All it takes is some effort.
