Chicago and Pizza by Corey F.

Chicago is well-known throughout the World for their pizza and is a mecca for pizza lovers. Chicagoans love their pizza and have their favorites of the differnet stlyes. One can walk down any street in Chicago and is bound to find a pizzeria. The most famous of Chicago pizzas is the deep-dish pizza, created at Pizzeria Uno in 1943. With the original recipe developed by Rudy Malnati. Other pizzerias known for their deep-dish are Pizzeria Due, Lou Malnati’s, Ginos East, Giordano’s, Edwardo’s, Nancy’s, and Home Run Inn. Characteristics of this pizza include a crispy thick dough parbaked in a deep pan. The pizza then gets a layer of cheese, followed by choices of toppings, and finished with a sauce on top. They are loaded with tons of cheese.

Other styles of Chicago pizza include stuffed crust, pan pizza, and thin crust pizza. Nancy’s and Giordano’s are credited with the stuffed pizza, a pizza similar to deep-dish, except for a top layer of crust. The pizza is similar to a pie and is covered with sauce on top. Pan pizza is cooked in a similar pan as deep dish, but the crust is thicker and the pizza is not as deep. Chicago style thin crust pizza is different from other thin crust pizzas like New York in the fact that its crust is more crisp and crunchy and is usually cut into small squares. This kind of pizza is my personal favorite. One is bound to find their favorite style of pizza in Chicago, and with the variety of toppings and combinations a pizza lover will be at heaven in Chicago.
